FAQ

Before entering into mental health treatment many people have similar Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding what to expect from therapy. If your questions aren’t answered below, or on other pages of this website please don’t hesitate to send me an email. I’ll try my best to answer any questions you may have.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. You can get to the Doxy.me telehealth portal by clicking here. (Appointments required)

How long will I be "in therapy?"

The length of therapy is entirely subjective. There are no minimum or maximum number of sessions required. Therapy depends on the goals you are trying to achieve. We will discuss this during your first session and then reassess as treatment progresses. For more information check out the APA article, “How Long Will It Take for Treatment To Work?”

Will I be able to leave therapy at any time I choose?

Yes. Mental health counseling is completely voluntary. You are in control of your progress. As guides on your journey to mental health and wellness, we counselors know how important it is to have the right fit. Research confirms that the most important factor in the therapeutic process is the trust and connection you have with your therapist.

How will I know when I am better?

Together, you and I will develop a plan of treatment during your first few counseling sessions. Once you have completed the measurable goals in your service treatment plan you will know that you are on the right path. Plus, you are going to FEEL better!

What’s the difference between talking to you and talking to a friend?

While friends and family can listen, they often don’t have the training and experience to affect meaningful change. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you learn about yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. If your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is also the risk of that relationship becoming compromised over time.

How do I know that my information will be kept private?

As a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in the State of Florida, I am held to the same strict HIPAA and confidentiality policies as your family doctor. Any violation of these standards can result in license termination and/or steep fines.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. If you need medication we will work together with your primary care provider or psychiatrist to determine your best course of treatment.

Do you accept credit cards or PayPal?

Yes. Both.

How do I know if you are professionally licensed?

The Florida Department of Health maintains a license verification webpage for all healthcare providers in the state. You can find it here

Do you counsel couples?

Yes. But please be aware there is a distinct possibility that I will not be able to see either of you individually once you have been counseled as a couple.
